About Me

Xavier Tu, a Toronto native, is a choreographer, professional dancer, and movement director for film and live performances. Known for his recognizable approach to dance and choreography, his works have left an indelible mark on audiences worldwide.

Early Life and Background

Born in St. Catharines, Ontario, he came from a family that always had a passion for dance and music. With the airing of the first season of America’s Best Dance Crew, he was inspired to see AAPI artists on television and began teaching himself dance via YouTube tutorials. From there, he began pursuing dance more seriously throughout his education. After graduating and pursuing full-time work, he eventually left his 9-5 job to pursue life as a full-time dance artist.

Career Journey

His dance credits include Disney’s “Zombies” series, “Sneakerella,” and “Work It” from Netflix and other television programs. He has also danced live at the FIFA World Cup 2023 half-time and closing ceremonies and for NBA Teams like the Toronto Raptors and CFL Teams like the Toronto Argos.

He also lent his creative genius to various promotional campaigns, including Sportchek and Wal-Mart. In line with his endeavours to try new creative fields, Xavier also produced and choreographed music videos for artists, including Jon Vinyl and Crown Lands.

Competition Successes and Live Performances

In addition to achieving choreographic success in film, television, and campaigns, Xavier excelled in the live performance and competitive arena. His contributions included performances at various high-level international competitions and outstanding achievements such as becoming a 3x National Champion at HHI Canada and being crowned for the ‘Best Hip Hop Performance’ at The Dance Awards, Vegas 2022.

Hobbies and Interests

Despite his professional commitments, he didn’t shy away from nurturing his passion for dance and teaching dancers. His transition from working a full-time 9-5 job to the world of arts demonstrates his goal-oriented mindset and dedication.

He is also a long-time practitioner of mixed martial arts and has maintained this as an outlet for many years.
